Crucifixion

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: Amos 8:9–10

Jehovah foretells a day when the sun darkens at noon and the land mourns as for an only son. In context it is judgment on Israel, but it matches strikingly the darkness at noon when Jesus, the Only Begotten Son, was crucified.

• the same title in Zechariah 12:10 — 'They shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son.'

Jehovah

LORD (Jehovah) — the eternal I AM, the covenant God of Israel

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: Amos 8:11–12

Jehovah warns of a spiritual famine when people search for His word and cannot find it. Latter-day Saint teachers often apply this to the Great Apostasy after Christ's Apostles were rejected, a famine ended when the Lord restored His word through Joseph Smith.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)
