Deuteronomy 11

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name, rendered LORD; the premortal Christ

And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm, Deuteronomy 11:2–7

The miracles in Egypt and at the Red Sea were the work of Jehovah, the premortal Christ. Paul later saw passing through the sea as a picture of baptism.

How we know: another scripture interprets it of Him

  • interpreted by D&C 136:22 — I am he who led the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; and my arm is stretched out.
  • the same event in 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 — Paul recalls the same crossing: all passed through the sea and were baptized unto Moses.

Jehovah

And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, Deuteronomy 11:13–15

Here Moses speaks as Jehovah ("my commandments", "I will give"). The premortal Christ promises to bless the land when His people keep covenant.
