Jesus Christ

Verily, verily, I say unto you my servant Frederick G. Williams: Listen to the voice of him who speaketh, to the word of the Lord your God, and hearken to the calling wherewith you are called, even to be a high priest in my church, and a counselor unto my servant Joseph Smith, Jun.; Doctrine and Covenants 81:1–2

Christ, who names Himself in verse 7, says He gave Joseph Smith the keys of the kingdom, just as He once promised them to Peter. Priesthood keys come from Him.

• alludes to Matthew 16:19 — I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus Christ

And if thou art faithful unto the end thou shalt have a crown of immortality, and eternal life in the mansions which I have prepared in the house of my Father. Doctrine and Covenants 81:6

The Son speaks of 'the house of my Father' and the mansions He has prepared there for the faithful. It is the promise He gave His disciples the night before He died.

• alludes to John 14:2 — In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you.

Alpha and Omega

Alpha and Omega — the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet: the beginning and the end

Behold, and lo, these are the words of Alpha and Omega, even Jesus Christ. Amen. Doctrine and Covenants 81:7

The revelation ends by naming its author: Alpha and Omega, who is Jesus Christ. This verse identifies Alpha and Omega as Christ outright.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same title in Revelation 1:8 — I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord.
• the same title in D&C 75:1 — Alpha and Omega, your Lord and your God.
