Doctrine and Covenants 82

Jesus Christ

Verily, verily, I say unto you, my servants, that inasmuch as you have forgiven one another your trespasses, even so I, the Lord, forgive you. Doctrine and Covenants 82:1

The Lord forgives these men because they forgave each other, the same principle He taught in the Lord's Prayer. Our forgiveness from Him is tied to how we forgive others.

Christ's mortal teachings

For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation. Doctrine and Covenants 82:3

Christ repeats one of His own sayings from Luke: whoever has been given much will be asked for much.

Jesus Christ

And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God. Doctrine and Covenants 82:7

He says what He said to the woman taken in adultery: go, and sin no more. Because of His Atonement He does not hold their sins against them, but warns that returning to sin brings the old sins back.

Jesus Christ

I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise. Doctrine and Covenants 82:10

The Lord binds Himself by covenant. When we obey, He is bound to keep His promises; when we don't, the promise does not apply. Covenants with Christ are that sure.

Christ's mortal teachings

And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord's storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church— Doctrine and Covenants 82:18

This uses Jesus' parable of the talents, where the Lord returns and asks each servant what he gained. Here the gains go into the Lord's storehouse for the whole Church.

Christ's mortal teachings

And now, verily I say unto you, and this is wisdom, make unto yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, and they will not destroy you. Doctrine and Covenants 82:22

The Lord repeats His counsel from the parable of the unjust steward. Deal wisely with people of the world so they will not destroy you.

Christ the Judge

Leave judgment alone with me, for it is mine and I will repay. Peace be with you; my blessings continue with you. Doctrine and Covenants 82:23

Judgment belongs to Christ, so His people can leave it to Him instead of taking revenge. Then He gives them His peace, as He did His disciples.
