Exodus 15

The LORD my salvation

Salvation — Hebrew yeshuah, the root of the name Jesus (Yeshua, 'Jehovah saves')

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. Exodus 15:1–2

After crossing the sea, Israel sings that Jehovah has become their salvation. Isaiah repeats this line using the name Jehovah, and Revelation shows the saved singing the song of Moses together with the song of the Lamb.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name of God, rendered LORD; the premortal Christ

The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. Exodus 15:3

The song declares that the LORD's name is Jehovah and that He fights for His people. Latter-day Saints know this warrior-deliverer as Jesus Christ before His birth.

Jehovah, glorious in holiness

Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Exodus 15:11

Israel praises Jehovah as holy and unmatched by any false god. The song of the Lamb in Revelation echoes this praise of the Lord's great and marvellous works.

Redeemer who purchased His people

Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. Exodus 15:13–17

Jehovah redeemed and purchased Israel and would bring them to His holy sanctuary. This pictures Christ, who bought us with His own blood and leads us home to God's presence.

The LORD shall reign for ever

The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. Exodus 15:18

The song ends by declaring that Jehovah will reign forever. Revelation uses the same words for the kingdom of the Lord and His Christ, and in modern revelation the Lord promises He 'will come and reign with my people'.

The tree that made bitter waters sweet

And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. Exodus 15:23–25

The LORD showed Moses a tree that turned bitter water sweet. Many Christians see in it the cross, the 'tree' on which Christ bore our sins so the bitterness of life can be made sweet.

The LORD that healeth thee

Jehovah-Rophe — the LORD who heals

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. Exodus 15:26

Jehovah reveals Himself as the One who heals His people. Jesus Christ is that same Healer, who healed bodies in His ministry and heals souls through His Atonement.
