Ezekiel 29

Jehovah

And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it. Ezekiel 29:9

Pharaoh claims to own and have made the Nile. Jehovah answers that Egypt will learn who the LORD really is. Latter-day Saints know Jehovah, the premortal Christ, as the Creator of all things, rivers included.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

Horn of Salvation

Horn - a symbol of strength and royal power; a horn that buds is new strength for Israel

In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD. Ezekiel 29:21

The immediate promise is that Israel's strength will return. Scripture elsewhere uses the budding horn for the Messiah, the promised king from David's line, and Zacharias calls Jesus 'an horn of salvation.' That makes this a soft echo of Christ, not a clear prophecy.

• alludes to Psalm 132:17 — 'There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed' - the same budding-horn image tied to the Anointed.
• the same title in Luke 1:69 — Zacharias praises God for raising up 'an horn of salvation' in the house of David, meaning Christ.
