Ezekiel 39

Holy One of Israel

Holy One of Israel — the set-apart, perfectly holy God of Israel

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. Ezekiel 39:7–8

Jehovah calls Himself the Holy One in Israel, a title the Book of Mormon repeatedly gives to Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Keeper of the gate. "It is done" announces the day He foretold, words John also heard at the final judgments before Christ's reign.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same title in 2 Nephi 9:41 — "The keeper of the gate is the Holy One of Israel."
• the same title in Isaiah 43:3 — "I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour."
• alluded to by Revelation 16:17 — A great voice from the throne says, "It is done."

Second Coming

And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. Ezekiel 39:17–21

The fallen armies become a "sacrifice" feast for the birds, a grim picture of the Lord's victory over the wicked. John saw the same scene, the supper of the great God, when Christ rides out as King of kings at His Second Coming and all nations see His glory.

Jehovah

Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. Ezekiel 39:28–29

After scattering and gathering Israel, Jehovah promises never again to hide His face and pours out His Spirit on them. The premortal Christ is the God who gathers His people and restores their closeness to Him.

How we know: the verse itself names Him
