Ezekiel 45

Atonement (reconciliation through sacrifice)

And one lamb out of the flock, out of two hundred, out of the fat pastures of Israel; for a meat offering, and for a burnt offering, and for peace offerings, to make reconciliation for them, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 45:15–17

A chosen lamb and other offerings are given 'to make reconciliation' for all Israel. The Hebrew word here is the same root as 'atonement.' These offerings foreshadow Jesus Christ, through whose sacrifice we are reconciled, made at one, with God.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• a type of what is in Romans 5:10-11 — Reconciled to God by the death of his Son, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Sacrifice as a similitude of the Only Begotten

Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the first month, in the first day of the month, thou shalt take a young bullock without blemish, and cleanse the sanctuary: Ezekiel 45:18–20

Blood of an unblemished sin offering is put on the doorposts of the house to cleanse it, even for those who sin by mistake or ignorance. Like the Passover blood on the doorposts, it points to the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses and covers even those who err unknowingly.

Passover

In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten. Ezekiel 45:21–24

The Passover is to be kept in the restored temple with unleavened bread and offerings without blemish. The Passover commemorated deliverance by the lamb's blood, and Jesus Christ is the true Passover Lamb, who died at Passover time to deliver us from sin and death.
