Sacrifice as a similitude of the Only Begotten

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. Genesis 46:1

Before going down to Egypt, Jacob offers sacrifices at Beersheba. Latter-day scripture teaches that animal sacrifice from Adam onward was 'a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father,' so each such offering pointed to Jesus Christ.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the premortal Christ

And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. Genesis 46:2–4

The God of Abraham and Isaac, who is Jehovah - the premortal Jesus Christ - speaks to Jacob and promises to go with him into Egypt and bring his family back out. In latter-day revelation the Lord names Himself the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who led Israel out of Egypt.

Joseph as a type of Christ

And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive. Genesis 46:30

Old Jacob is ready to die in peace once he has seen the face of the son he thought was lost. Aged Simeon said nearly the same when he held the baby Jesus: he could depart in peace because he had seen the Savior.
