Habakkuk 2

Second Coming

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. Habakkuk 2:2–3

The LORD tells Habakkuk His promises will come at the appointed time even if they seem slow. Hebrews reads this as a promise about Christ Himself: 'he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.'

Faith in Christ

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4

The righteous person lives by trusting God. Paul quoted this line three times to teach that we are made right with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Christ's Ministry

For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. Habakkuk 2:11

Even the stones of the oppressor's house cry out against his injustice. At His triumphal entry Jesus said that if His disciples were silent 'the stones would immediately cry out,' possibly echoing this image.

Millennial Reign

For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14

Habakkuk looks past the wicked empires to a day when knowledge of the LORD fills the whole earth. Isaiah gives the same promise in his prophecy of the Stem of Jesse, which Latter-day Saint scripture identifies with Christ's millennial reign.

Jehovah

Jehovah (LORD) — the covenant name, 'I AM'; the premortal Christ

But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him. Habakkuk 2:20

Unlike dumb idols with no breath in them, the living LORD reigns in His holy temple, and the whole earth should hush in reverence before Him.
