Hosea 10

Hiding from the Presence of the Lord

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. Hosea 10:8

On the way to His crucifixion Jesus quoted these words to the weeping women of Jerusalem, warning of coming destruction. John and Alma use the same picture of the wicked wanting to hide from the Lord at judgment.

• alluded to by Revelation 6:16 — The wicked say to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb."
• alluded to by Alma 12:14 — The wicked would "command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence".

The LORD Who Comes and Rains Righteousness

Jehovah — the LORD, the eternal I AM

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Hosea 10:12

Hosea urges Israel to seek the LORD until He comes and pours righteousness on them like rain. It softly anticipates the coming of the Lord who makes people righteous.
