Isaiah 6

Jehovah, the King, seen by Isaiah

In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Isaiah 6:1–5

Isaiah sees Jehovah in glory, worshipped by seraphim. John says Isaiah saw Jesus' glory here, and Nephi says Isaiah saw his Redeemer.

Cleansing from the altar

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: Isaiah 6:6–7

Isaiah's sin is purged by a coal from the altar of sacrifice. The altar pointed to Christ's sacrifice, the only thing that can take away sin and make us ready to serve.

Here am I, send me

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8

Isaiah answers with the same words the premortal Christ spoke when the Father asked whom He should send. The prophet's willingness echoes the Savior's.

Jehovah's commission to Isaiah

And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Isaiah 6:9–10

Jehovah warns that many will hear and not understand. Jesus quoted these words to explain why many rejected His parables and Him, though He longed to heal them.
