Isaiah 62

Take His Name

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. Isaiah 62:2

The Lord Himself gives His redeemed people a new name. Christ promises a new name to those who overcome, and He writes His own new name on them.

Bridegroom

Hephzibah — 'my delight is in her'; Beulah — 'married'

Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. Isaiah 62:4–5

Zion, once called Forsaken, is renamed 'my delight is in her' and 'married,' because God rejoices over her like a bridegroom. The New Testament names Christ as the Bridegroom and His Church as the bride.

Savior (Thy Salvation)

Salvation — Hebrew yesha, the root of the name Jesus (Yeshua)

Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. Isaiah 62:11

Salvation is spoken of as a person who comes to Zion, bringing His reward with Him. Matthew quotes the opening words for Jesus riding into Jerusalem, and Jesus uses the same words for His Second Coming.

Redeemer

And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. Isaiah 62:12

God's people are renamed 'the redeemed of the LORD,' a name that only makes sense because the Lord is their Redeemer.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)
