Jeremiah 13

Cleaving to Jehovah as His people and name

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear. Jeremiah 13:11

Jehovah wanted Israel to cling to Him as closely as a belt to the waist and to be 'for a name,' a people who carry His name. Covenant people today take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, the same Jehovah.

The LORD's flock

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive. Jeremiah 13:17

Israel is 'the LORD's flock,' and the prophet weeps in secret because the flock is lost to captivity. The image points ahead to Christ, the Good Shepherd who weeps over His people and gathers His lost sheep.
