Job 16

Job as a type of the suffering Christ

They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. Job 16:10–11

Job, a righteous man smitten on the cheek and handed over to the wicked, foreshadows the Savior, who was struck and delivered into the hands of sinners. The Lord later reminded Joseph Smith that the Son of Man descended below all such suffering (D&C 122:8).

Advocate

Advocate — one who pleads another's cause before the judge

Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high. Job 16:19–21

Job longs for a witness in heaven who will plead for man before God. That longing is answered in Jesus Christ, our Advocate with the Father, who pleads our cause.
