Joshua 7

Jehovah, God of Israel

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Joshua 7:10–13

Jehovah, the premortal Christ, is the covenant-maker whose covenant Israel broke. He tells them they must sanctify themselves and remove the sin before His power can be with them again.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me. Joshua 7:19–20

Sin is confessed to the LORD God of Israel, the premortal Christ, the one to whom every soul is accountable and who alone can forgive.

Valley of Achor made a door of hope

Achor — trouble

And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day. Joshua 7:26

Once the sin is removed, the Lord's anger turns away. Hosea later promises that the Lord will make this valley of trouble 'a door of hope' as He woos Israel back — a picture of the Redeemer turning our worst places into hope.
