Isaiah 65

Jehovah

I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. Isaiah 65:1–2

Jehovah is found by nations who never looked for Him, and He keeps His hands stretched out all day to His own rebellious people. The Book of Mormon uses the same picture of Christ's arm lengthened out all day, still inviting.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• quoted by Romans 10:20-21 — Paul quotes both verses about the Gentiles receiving the gospel and Israel's resistance.
• alluded to by 2 Nephi 28:32 — 'Mine arm is lengthened out all the day long.'
• alluded to by Jacob 6:4 — He stretches forth His hands unto them all the day long.

Take His Name

And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name: Isaiah 65:15

The Lord will give His faithful servants a new name. The disciples were later called Christians, and covenant people take the name of Christ.

The Amen (God of Truth)

God of truth — Hebrew Elohei amen, 'the God of Amen'; the risen Christ calls Himself 'the Amen'

That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes. Isaiah 65:16

The Hebrew literally says 'the God of Amen,' the God who is completely faithful and true. In Revelation the resurrected Christ calls Himself 'the Amen, the faithful and true witness,' a hidden title of Christ.

Millennial Reign

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Isaiah 65:17–19

Jehovah, the Creator, promises to renew the earth and create a joyful Jerusalem without weeping. Latter-day Saints believe the earth will be renewed when Christ reigns personally on it.

Millennial Reign

There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. Isaiah 65:20–25

Under the Lord's reign people live long lives, enjoy their own labor, have prayers answered before they finish asking, and even animals live at peace. The Doctrine and Covenants describes the Millennium in these terms.
