Judges 15

Bound by his own and delivered to the Gentiles (Samson as type)

Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them. Judges 15:11–14

The men of Judah, Samson's own people, bind the deliverer and hand him over to the foreign rulers, yet the bonds cannot hold him. Christian teachers have seen here a type of Jesus, bound by leaders of Judah and delivered to the Romans, whose bonds of death could not hold Him.

Jehovah the Deliverer

And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? Judges 15:18

Samson calls on Jehovah and confesses that the great deliverance came from Him, not from his own strength.

Water from the cloven place

Enhakkore — the spring of him that called

But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof Enhakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day. Judges 15:19

God splits open a hollow place and water flows out to revive the dying deliverer who called on Him. Like the water from the smitten rock, it echoes Christ, the source of living water that restores the soul of all who call on Him.
