Christ

Christ — the Anointed One

The words of Christ, which he spake unto his disciples, the twelve whom he had chosen, as he laid his hands upon them— Moroni 2:1–2

The resurrected Savior Himself speaks, laying hands on His twelve Nephite disciples and giving them authority to bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost. Every such ordinance is done in His name.

How we know: the verse itself names Him · the chapter heading names Him

• the same event in 3 Nephi 18:36-37 — Christ touches the disciples one by one and gives them power to give the Holy Ghost.
• the same event in 3 Nephi 12:1 — Christ names the twelve He had chosen.

Appearance to the Nephites

Now Christ spake these words unto them at the time of his first appearing; and the multitude heard it not, but the disciples heard it; and on as many as they laid their hands, fell the Holy Ghost. Moroni 2:3

Moroni dates these words to Christ's first appearing among the Nephites at Bountiful, recalling that He really came to them in person.
