Moroni 3

In the name of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ — Jesus (Jehovah saves), Christ (the Anointed One)

After they had prayed unto the Father in the name of Christ, they laid their hands upon them, and said: Moroni 3:2–3

Priesthood ordinations are performed in the name of Jesus Christ, because all priesthood authority is His. The elders prayed to the Father through Him before acting.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• alludes to D&C 20:60 — Latter-day instruction that officers are ordained by the power of the Holy Ghost.
• alludes to Moroni 2:2 — Christ told His disciples to act in His name.

Remission of sins through Jesus Christ

In the name of Jesus Christ I ordain you to be a priest (or if he be a teacher, I ordain you to be a teacher) to preach repentance and remission of sins through Jesus Christ, by the endurance of faith on his name to the end. Amen. Moroni 3:3

The message priests and teachers are called to preach is that sins are forgiven only through Jesus Christ, and that we must keep faith in His name to the end.
