Numbers 23

Jehovah

Jehovah (LORD) — the covenant God of Israel, the premortal Jesus Christ

And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram. Numbers 23:4–5

The LORD meets Balaam and literally puts the words in his mouth, so a man hired to curse can only bless. Jehovah, the premortal Christ, is in control of the message.

A second time Jehovah meets the prophet and gives him the exact words to say. No change of location can change what the LORD has decided to bless.

Jehovah

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. Numbers 23:21–22

Balaam sees that Israel's real strength is that the LORD Himself is with them as their King, the God who brought them out of Egypt. Latter-day Saints see Jehovah, the premortal Christ, as Israel's Deliverer and King, a God who dwells with His people.
