Sacrifice in Similitude

And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the LORD, to make an atonement for the Levites. Numbers 8:12

Laying hands on the animal's head showed the worshipper's sins being placed on the sacrifice, which then died in their place. This pictures Jesus Christ taking our sins upon Himself so we can be clean and serve God.

Jehovah

For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me. Numbers 8:16–18

Jehovah, the premortal Christ, speaks: every firstborn in Israel belongs to Him because He spared them on the night He struck Egypt's firstborn, and He now takes the Levites in their place. The firstborn lived that night because of the blood of the Passover lamb.
