LORD (Jehovah) — the covenant name, "I AM", the premortal Christ
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Proverbs 17:3
As fire refines metal, Jehovah the premortal Christ tests and purifies hearts.

Maker — the One who created us
Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. Proverbs 17:5
Whoever mocks the poor insults the One who made them. Latter-day Saints know that Creator as Jesus Christ, working under the Father.

Jehovah hates injustice: setting the guilty free and condemning the innocent are both abominations to Him.

This saying is about true friendship and brotherhood. Many believers also hear an echo of Jesus Christ, who calls His disciples friends and was born to carry us through adversity.
