Psalms 19

The Creator's handiwork

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Psalms 19:1

All creation testifies of its Maker. Latter-day Saint scripture teaches that Christ created the heavens and the earth under the Father, and that all things bear record of Him.

• alludes to Alma 30:44 — All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth... and all the planets.
• alludes to Moses 6:63 — All things are created and made to bear record of me.

Sun as a bridegroom

Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Psalms 19:4–5

The rising sun is compared to a joyful bridegroom. Christ is both the Bridegroom and the Sun of Righteousness, so the image softly echoes Him; Paul applied verse 4 to the spread of the gospel.

• alludes to Malachi 4:2 — The Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.

My Redeemer

Redeemer — the one who buys back and frees

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14

David calls the LORD his Redeemer, the one who pays the price to free him. Jehovah the Redeemer is Jesus Christ, who redeems us by His Atonement.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same title in Isaiah 47:4 — Our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
• the same title in Job 19:25 — I know that my redeemer liveth.
