Psalms 47

Great King over All the Earth

For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. Psalms 47:2

The LORD is King over the whole earth. Zechariah foresees the day the LORD shall be king over all the earth, which Latter-day Saints understand as Christ's reign.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

God Is Gone Up

God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Psalms 47:5

God 'is gone up' with shouting and trumpets. Christians have long read this as a picture of Christ ascending to heaven, from where He will return with a trumpet.

King on the Throne of Holiness

Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. Psalms 47:6–8

The nations are called to praise God as King of all the earth, sitting on His holy throne. Christ will reign as King of kings.
