Psalms 99

Mercy Seat

The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. Psalms 99:1–3

Jehovah is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark, above the mercy seat where atoning blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement. The mercy seat points to Jesus Christ, whose Atonement is the place where God meets us in mercy.

• alluded to by Hebrews 9:5 — The cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat, a figure of Christ's greater ministry.

Jehovah

Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. Psalms 99:5

Israel is called to worship the holy Jehovah at His footstool, the ark in the temple. Latter-day Saints know Him as the premortal Christ.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Jehovah

Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them. Psalms 99:6–8

Jehovah answered Moses, Aaron, and Samuel, spoke from the pillar of cloud, and forgave Israel even while He corrected them. The One who spoke from the cloud was the premortal Christ.
