Romans 7

Married to Him who is raised from the dead

Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Romans 7:4

Paul pictures believers as a bride freed from her old covenant partner, the law, through Christ's body offered on the cross, and now married to the risen Christ. He is the Bridegroom, and the union bears fruit for God.

Deliverer from the body of this death

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Romans 7:24–25

After describing how hard it is to overcome sin on his own, Paul asks who can rescue him, and answers: Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the only deliverance from sin and death.
