2 Kings 21

Jehovah

And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 2 Kings 21:4–7

Jehovah had put His name on the temple as the place to meet Him. Manasseh filled that holy house with idols. The name placed on the temple is the name of the premortal Christ, whose name we still take upon us in holy places.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

  • alludes to 1 Kings 9:3 — The LORD hallowed Solomon's temple "to put my name there for ever."
  • alludes to Deuteronomy 12:5 — The place the LORD shall choose to put his name there.

Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. 2 Kings 21:12–15

Through His prophets Jehovah announces judgment on Judah for Manasseh's wickedness, reminding them He has watched them since He brought their fathers out of Egypt. The premortal Christ is both Israel's Deliverer and its Judge.
