2 Nephi 22

Jehovah

Jehovah — I AM, the eternal, self-existent God

And in that day thou shalt say: O Lord, I will praise thee; though thou wast angry with me thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. 2 Nephi 22:1–2

Jehovah is named outright as the one who has become Israel's salvation. Jehovah is the premortal Jesus Christ, who would come to earth to save us, so this song praises Him.

Savior (Salvation)

Jesus (Hebrew Yeshua) — Jehovah saves; the Hebrew word for salvation here is yeshuah

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation. 2 Nephi 22:2

The name Jesus comes from the same Hebrew word as 'salvation'. When Jehovah 'becomes salvation', the verse quietly foreshadows Jehovah coming to earth with the name Jesus, the Savior.

Wells of Salvation

Therefore, with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. 2 Nephi 22:3

Salvation is pictured as water drawn joyfully from a well. Jesus later offered Himself as living water that springs up into everlasting life.

Jehovah's exalted name

And in that day shall ye say: Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. 2 Nephi 22:4–5

The gathered people praise the Lord and call upon His name, the name of Jehovah just sung in verse 2. Latter-day Saints call upon the Father in the name of that same Lord, Jesus Christ.

Holy One of Israel

Holy One of Israel — the set-apart, perfectly holy God who belongs to Israel by covenant

Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion; for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee. 2 Nephi 22:6

Zion shouts for joy because the Holy One of Israel dwells in the middle of His people. Nephi teaches that the Holy One of Israel is Christ, who will live among His Saints.
