The LORD who redeemed Israel from bondage
Redeemer — one who buys back and frees
But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing. Deuteronomy 24:18
Israel was to deal mercifully with the poor and the stranger because Jehovah had redeemed them when they were slaves. Jehovah is Jesus Christ, the Redeemer who frees us from the bondage of sin, and His mercy to us is the reason we show mercy to others.
