Doctrine and Covenants 56

People who profess His name

Hearken, O ye people who profess my name, saith the Lord your God; for behold, mine anger is kindled against the rebellious, and they shall know mine arm and mine indignation, in the day of visitation and of wrath upon the nations. Doctrine and Covenants 56:1

The Lord speaks to Church members as the people who profess His name, reminding them that they have taken His name upon them and must live up to it.

Take up the cross and follow Him

And he that will not take up his cross and follow me, and keep my commandments, the same shall not be saved. Doctrine and Covenants 56:2

Jesus repeats His call to discipleship: carry your cross and follow Him. Salvation comes by following Christ, not just professing Him.

Lord God of Hosts

Lord of hosts — Lord of the armies of heaven

Otherwise he shall receive the money which he has paid, and shall leave the place, and shall be cut off out of my church, saith the Lord God of hosts; Doctrine and Covenants 56:10

The Savior speaking in this revelation uses the Old Testament title Lord of hosts, commander of heaven's armies.

His words shall not pass away

And though the heaven and the earth pass away, these words shall not pass away, but shall be fulfilled. Doctrine and Covenants 56:11

The Lord echoes His own teaching that His words outlast heaven and earth.

Second Coming

But blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts are broken, and whose spirits are contrite, for they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs. Doctrine and Covenants 56:18–19

The humble poor will see the Lord come in power and glory to deliver them. When Jesus comes again He will reward every person according to what they have done.
