Exodus 39

High Priest

And they wrought onyx stones inclosed in ouches of gold, graven, as signets are graven, with the names of the children of Israel. Exodus 39:6–7

The high priest carried the names of Israel's tribes on his shoulders into the Lord's presence. Jesus Christ, our High Priest, carries His people and represents them before the Father.

Over his heart the high priest wore twelve stones engraved with the tribes' names. Christ, our High Priest, holds each of His people in His heart as He intercedes for them.

High Priest

The high priest wore a golden crown reading HOLINESS TO THE LORD, so he could bear Israel's iniquity before God. Only Jesus Christ is perfectly holy, the High Priest who truly bears our sins.

The Tabernacle

And they brought the tabernacle unto Moses, the tent, and all his furniture, his taches, his boards, his bars, and his pillars, and his sockets, Exodus 39:33

The finished tabernacle is brought to Moses. Hebrews 9 walks through this same tabernacle and teaches it was 'a figure' of Christ, who entered the true holy place by His own blood.

The Vail

And the covering of rams’ skins dyed red, and the covering of badgers’ skins, and the vail of the covering, Exodus 39:34

The vail is brought to Moses with the finished tabernacle. Hebrews teaches the vail stands for Christ's flesh, the way into God's presence.

Mercy Seat

The ark of the testimony, and the staves thereof, and the mercy seat, Exodus 39:35

The mercy seat, where atoning blood was sprinkled, is a type of Jesus Christ's atoning sacrifice through which we receive mercy.

Bread of Life

The table, and all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread, Exodus 39:36

The shewbread, bread kept always before the Lord, is traditionally seen as a picture of Christ, the Bread of Life.

Light of the World

The pure candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light, Exodus 39:37

The pure golden candlestick, the light of the holy place, is traditionally seen as a picture of Christ, the Light of the World.

The brasen altar, and his grate of brass, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot, Exodus 39:39

The brasen altar of sacrifice points to the sacrifice of the Only Begotten, which every offering on it foreshadowed.
