Ezekiel 16

Bridegroom

And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live. Ezekiel 16:6–14

In this allegory Jehovah finds Israel helpless and dying, commands her to live, covers her, makes a marriage covenant with her, washes and anoints her, and clothes her in fine linen. Latter-day Saints see Jehovah as the premortal Christ, the Bridegroom who rescues His people, cleanses them, and makes them beautiful through His own comeliness rather than theirs.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name of the premortal Christ, 'I AM'

Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. Ezekiel 16:60–62

After all Israel's unfaithfulness, Jehovah promises He will still remember His covenant and establish an everlasting covenant. Latter-day Saints see this fulfilled in the new and everlasting covenant of the gospel of Jesus Christ, restored in the latter days.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• alludes to Isaiah 55:3 — I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
• fulfilled by D&C 1:22 — The Lord restores the gospel that mine everlasting covenant might be established.

Atonement

That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 16:63

The Hebrew behind 'pacified' is kaphar, the word for making atonement or covering sin; the verse can be read 'when I make atonement for you for all that you have done.' Jehovah Himself provides the covering for a people who could not cleanse themselves, which points to the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
