Jeshua the high priest, a type of the Branch

Jeshua — 'Jehovah is salvation,' the same Hebrew name as Joshua and Jesus

Jeshua, the high priest who led the return, carries the same name as Jesus. The prophet Zechariah crowns this same Joshua as a sign of 'the man whose name is The BRANCH' who will be both priest and king, which is fulfilled in Christ.

Zerubbabel, heir of David's royal line, leads the captives home to rebuild the temple. He appears in the genealogy of Jesus, and Haggai calls him the Lord's chosen signet, so he stands as a soft picture of the Son of David who builds God's house.

Great High Priest

Men whose priestly lineage could not be proven had to wait until a priest with Urim and Thummim could reveal the truth. The waiting for a true revealing priest is a soft echo of Christ, the great High Priest who knows all things.
