Ezra 6

Jehovah

And the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed. Ezra 6:12

Even the Persian king recognizes that the temple is where God has placed His name. The name Jehovah placed on His house points to Jesus Christ, whose name His covenant people take upon them.

Sacrifice as a Similitude of Christ

And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy, Ezra 6:16–17

The temple is dedicated with offerings, including a sin offering for every tribe, so that no part of Israel is left out. It foreshadows the one offering of Jesus Christ, whose Atonement covers all of the house of Israel and all people.

Passover Lamb

And the children of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month. Ezra 6:19–22

Freed from captivity, Israel again kills the Passover lamb, remembering how the blood of a lamb saved them from death in Egypt. The Passover lamb is a type of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, whose blood delivers us from sin and death. The joy at the end of the feast is joy Jehovah gave them.
