Isaiah 14

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name, rendered LORD; the premortal Jesus Christ

For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. Isaiah 14:1–5

The LORD (Jehovah, the premortal Christ) promises mercy, gathering, and rest from bondage for Israel and breaks the oppressor's power. Rest from sorrow and bondage is what the Savior offers every soul.

Premortal Christ (contrast with Lucifer)

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isaiah 14:12–14

Latter-day scripture uses this passage's language for Lucifer, who in the premortal council rebelled against the Only Begotten Son and sought God's glory for himself. The contrast highlights the Beloved Son, who gave the glory to the Father.

Lord of Hosts

Lord of Hosts — Jehovah, commander of the armies of heaven

For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD. Isaiah 14:22–27

The LORD of hosts swears that His purposes will stand and that He will lift the oppressor's yoke and burden off His people. Jehovah, the premortal Christ, is the one who removes burdens.

Jehovah

Jehovah is the founder of Zion, and the poor among His people find safety in trusting Him.
