Jeremiah 16

Jehovah of the latter-day gathering

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; Jeremiah 16:14–15

The future gathering of Israel will be so great that it will outshine the Exodus from Egypt. Jehovah, Christ, is the one who gathers; in the Kirtland Temple He appeared, and Moses restored the keys for leading the ten tribes from the land of the north.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Fishers sent by the LORD

Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. Jeremiah 16:16

In context the fishers and hunters bring both judgment and gathering. Latter-day Saint teachers often read them as missionaries gathering Israel, echoing Jesus's call to His Apostles to be 'fishers of men.'

Strength, Fortress, Refuge of the Gentiles

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Jeremiah 16:19

Jeremiah foresees Gentiles from every land abandoning their fathers' lies and coming to the LORD. That was fulfilled as the gospel of Jesus Christ went to all nations.

My name is The LORD

Jehovah — I AM, the eternal covenant God

Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD. Jeremiah 16:21

Jehovah states His own name and promises that the nations will come to know it. Jesus Christ is Jehovah, and every knee will one day confess His name.
