Psalms 147

Gatherer of Israel

Jehovah — the premortal Jesus Christ, the covenant God of Israel

Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. Psalms 147:1–2

Jehovah rebuilds Jerusalem and gathers scattered Israel. Latter-day Saints see His gathering continuing in the last days.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

• alludes to Isaiah 56:8 — 'The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel.'

Healer of the brokenhearted

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. Psalms 147:3

Healing broken hearts is the Messiah's own mission. Jesus read it aloud in Nazareth as fulfilled in Himself.

• alludes to Isaiah 61:1 — The Anointed One is sent 'to bind up the brokenhearted.'
• fulfilled by Luke 4:18 — Jesus: 'he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted.'

Jehovah (the LORD)

The same LORD who names every star lifts up the meek.

His word

He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. Psalms 147:15–19

God's word goes out to earth, melts the ice, and is revealed to Israel. Readers who know John 1 may hear a soft echo of the Word sent from heaven.
