Psalms 61

The Rock That Is Higher Than I

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalms 61:2–3

The psalmist asks to be led to a rock higher than himself, a sure refuge. That Rock is Christ, the foundation on which we must build.

The King Who Abides Forever

Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations. Psalms 61:6–7

A king who lives for many generations and abides before God forever goes beyond any mortal king of David's line. It is fulfilled in Christ, the Son of David, whose reign has no end.
