Romans 13

Love, the fulfilling of the law

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8–10

Paul repeats what Jesus taught: all the commandments hang on love. When we love others, we are living the law the way Christ lived it.

The day is at hand

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Romans 13:11–12

Paul urges the Saints to wake up because the full day of salvation, the Lord's coming, draws nearer every day. Disciples prepare by putting on the armour of light.

Put on the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus — Jehovah saves; Christ — the Anointed One

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

Disciples are to wear Christ like clothing — take on His character and name — instead of feeding selfish desires.

How we know: the verse itself names Him
