Luke 12

Son of Man Who Confesses Us

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: Luke 12:8–9

Jesus promises that if we stand up for Him before others, He will stand up for us before God's angels. He is our Advocate at the judgment.

Son of Man

And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. Luke 12:10

Jesus uses His title Son of Man and teaches the mercy that allows even words against Him to be forgiven, while warning about fully denying the Holy Ghost's witness.

The Lord Returning from the Wedding

Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35–38

Jesus is the lord who will return, and His disciples are to be dressed and watching with lights burning. Amazingly, when He comes He will gird Himself and serve His faithful servants, as He did when He washed the disciples' feet.

Son of Man Cometh

And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Luke 12:39–40

Jesus prophesies that He will come again at an unexpected hour, like a thief in the night. The only safe plan is to be ready always.

The Lord and His Stewards

Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? Luke 12:41–48

Luke calls Jesus 'the Lord' as He tells a parable in which He is the returning lord of the household. At His coming He will reward faithful stewards and hold accountable those who knew His will and ignored it.

The Baptism of His Suffering

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? Luke 12:49–50

Jesus speaks of a coming 'baptism' He must pass through, meaning the overwhelming suffering of His Atonement and death, and says how He feels the pressure of it until it is finished. The fire He came to send recalls John's promise that He would baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

He Came to Divide

Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: Luke 12:51–53

Jesus warns that choosing Him will sometimes divide even families, as Micah foresaw. People must decide for or against Him.
