Ezekiel 43

Jehovah (the glory of the God of Israel)

Jehovah — the covenant name, rendered LORD; the premortal Christ

And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. Ezekiel 43:2–5

Ezekiel sees the glory of the God of Israel return to the temple, the same glorious Being he saw by the river Chebar. His voice 'like a noise of many waters' is exactly how Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery described the voice of Jehovah, who appeared in the Kirtland Temple and said He was slain and lives again, and how John described the resurrected Christ. Latter-day Saints understand this returning Lord to be Jesus Christ coming to His house.

The Lord dwelling among His people

And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me. Ezekiel 43:6–9

Jehovah speaks from His temple and names it the place of His throne and of the soles of His feet, promising to dwell among Israel for ever once they put away their sins. This looks forward to the Lord's personal reign among His people, when Jesus Christ will dwell with them as their King.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• alluded to by Revelation 21:3 — The tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them.

Sacrifice as a similitude of the Only Begotten

And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon. Ezekiel 43:18–27

The altar is cleansed with the blood of offerings without blemish, the sin-offering bullock is burned outside the sanctuary, and then the Lord says 'I will accept you.' Each detail points to Jesus Christ: the sinless Lamb whose blood cleanses, who suffered outside the gate of Jerusalem, and through whom we are accepted by God.
