Psalms 106

Redeemer

Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. Psalms 106:7–10

The God who parted the Red Sea and redeemed Israel from Egypt was Jehovah, the premortal Jesus Christ. Paul teaches that the Rock who went with Israel through these events was Christ.

But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. Psalms 106:14

Paul explains that the God Israel tempted in the wilderness was Christ, so this verse is about testing the patience of the premortal Jesus.

Saviour

They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; Psalms 106:21

"Saviour" is Jehovah's title here; Isaiah has Jehovah say there is no Saviour beside Him, and the Book of Mormon teaches that Saviour is Jesus Christ.

Moses as a type of Christ

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. Psalms 106:23

Moses stood between a guilty people and God's judgment and pleaded for them. That makes him a picture of Jesus Christ, the one Mediator who stands in the gap for us.

Atonement

Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. Psalms 106:30–31

Numbers says Phinehas "made an atonement" and stopped the plague. It is a small echo of the greater Atonement of Christ that stops the spiritual plague of sin.

LORD God of Israel

Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. Psalms 106:47–48

The closing plea asks Jehovah, the God of Israel, to save and gather His scattered people. The resurrected Jesus introduced Himself to the Nephites as the God of Israel.
