Psalms 105

Jehovah

O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Psalms 105:1–7

Israel, the seed of Abraham, is told to call on Jehovah's name, tell of His works, and seek His face always. Jehovah is the premortal Christ, whose face the faithful seek.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Seed of Abraham

He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Psalms 105:8–11

Jehovah remembers the everlasting covenant and oath He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Zacharias rejoiced that God was remembering this oath in sending the Redeemer, and Paul teaches that the promised Seed of Abraham is Christ.

Joseph as a Type of Christ

He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Psalms 105:17–22

Joseph was sent ahead to save his family, sold as a servant, bound and imprisoned, then loosed and made ruler over all. Jesus was sent to save His people, sold for silver, bound and put to death, then raised and given all power in heaven and earth.

Moses as a Type of Christ

He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. Psalms 105:26–27

Jehovah sent Moses to deliver Israel from bondage with signs and wonders. Moses foretold a Prophet like himself, whom Peter and Nephi identify as Jesus Christ, the greater Deliverer from sin and death.

Jehovah

He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. Psalms 105:39

Jehovah led and sheltered Israel in the pillar of cloud and fire. That guiding presence was the premortal Christ going before His people.

Manna

The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. Psalms 105:40

The 'bread of heaven' is the manna that fed Israel in the wilderness. Jesus taught that He is the true bread from heaven, the Bread of Life, who gives eternal life to all who come to Him.

Smitten Rock

He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. Psalms 105:41

Water gushed from the rock to keep Israel alive in the desert. Paul says 'that Rock was Christ,' who was struck for us and from whom living water flows.
