Ezekiel 10

Jehovah

Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. Ezekiel 10:1

Ezekiel sees again the sapphire throne of the God of Israel above the cherubim. In Ezekiel 1 the One on this throne has the likeness of a man; Latter-day Saints understand Him as Jehovah, the premortal Christ, the King enthroned in glory.

Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory. Ezekiel 10:4

The glory of Jehovah, the premortal Christ, fills the temple with cloud and brightness even as it prepares to leave. The cloud recalls the glory that filled the tabernacle and Solomon's temple when the Lord first came to dwell there.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims. Ezekiel 10:18–19

The Lord leaves His temple by way of the east gate because His people have rejected Him. Later in the book Ezekiel sees that same glory return by the east gate to fill a restored temple, a promise that Christ will again dwell among His people.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)
