Doctrine and Covenants 63

The Lord (Jehovah, Jesus Christ) speaking

Hearken, O ye people, and open your hearts and give ear from afar; and listen, you that call yourselves the people of the Lord, and hear the word of the Lord and his will concerning you. Doctrine and Covenants 63:1–5

The Lord who speaks in this revelation identifies Himself in verse 60 as Jesus Christ. His word is certain: what He speaks will be obeyed.

Second Coming

Wherefore, verily I say, let the wicked take heed, and let the rebellious fear and tremble; and let the unbelieving hold their lips, for the day of wrath shall come upon them as a whirlwind, and all flesh shall know that I am God. Doctrine and Covenants 63:6

Christ foretells the day of wrath at His coming, when every person will know that He is God.

Jesus Christ repeating His own teaching

And verily I say unto you, as I have said before, he that looketh on a woman to lust after her, or if any shall commit adultery in their hearts, they shall not have the Spirit, but shall deny the faith and shall fear. Doctrine and Covenants 63:16

"As I have said before" shows the speaker is the same Jesus who taught this in the Sermon on the Mount and repeated it in the Law of the Church.

Judgment

Wherefore, I, the Lord, have said that the fearful, and the unbelieving, and all liars, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie, and the whoremonger, and the sorcerer, shall have their part in that lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Doctrine and Covenants 63:17–18

The Lord repeats the words of Revelation about the final judgment and the first resurrection, which He as Judge and Resurrected Lord brings about.

The Transfiguration shown to His apostles

Nevertheless, he that endureth in faith and doeth my will, the same shall overcome, and shall receive an inheritance upon the earth when the day of transfiguration shall come; Doctrine and Covenants 63:20–21

Christ calls Peter, James and John "mine apostles" and points back to His own Transfiguration on the mount as the pattern for the earth's future renewal.

Living Water

Jesus uses the same promise He gave the Samaritan woman at the well: what He gives becomes living water springing up to eternal life.

Second Coming

And the saints also shall hardly escape; nevertheless, I, the Lord, am with them, and will come down in heaven from the presence of my Father and consume the wicked with unquenchable fire. Doctrine and Covenants 63:34–35

The Son, speaking of "my Father," promises to come down from the Father's presence at His Second Coming, to stand with the Saints and end wickedness.

Resurrection at His coming

Yea, and blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, from henceforth, when the Lord shall come, and old things shall pass away, and all things become new, they shall rise from the dead and shall not die after, and shall receive an inheritance before the Lord, in the holy city. Doctrine and Covenants 63:49–52

When Christ comes again, the faithful dead will rise never to die again, and the righteous living will be changed in an instant. His Resurrection makes theirs possible, which is why the apostles preached it.

Son of Man

Son of Man — Son of Man of Holiness, the Son of the Father (Moses 6:57)

These things are the things that ye must look for; and, speaking after the manner of the Lord, they are now nigh at hand, and in a time to come, even in the day of the coming of the Son of Man. Doctrine and Covenants 63:53

Son of Man is Jesus' favorite title for Himself; in Restoration scripture it means the Son of the Man of Holiness, our Heavenly Father.

Second Coming (parables of the virgins and the tares)

And until that hour there will be foolish virgins among the wise; and at that hour cometh an entire separation of the righteous and the wicked; and in that day will I send mine angels to pluck out the wicked and cast them into unquenchable fire. Doctrine and Covenants 63:54

Christ draws on His own parables: the ten virgins waiting for the Bridegroom, and the Son of Man sending His angels to separate the wicked at the end of the world.

He who is over all, in all and through all

Behold, I am from above, and my power lieth beneath. I am over all, and in all, and through all, and search all things, and the day cometh that all things shall be subject unto me. Doctrine and Covenants 63:59

Christ describes His reach: He came from above, His power reaches below all things, and one day everything will be subject to Him.

Alpha and Omega

Alpha and Omega — the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet: the beginning and the end

The speaker of the whole revelation reveals who He is: Jesus Christ, the first and the last, present at the beginning and the end of all things.

Here the Lord speaks His own name, making clear that the voice of the Doctrine and Covenants is Jesus Christ.

His Name Held Sacred

Right after naming Himself Jesus Christ, He warns that His name is sacred: it must not be used lightly or claimed without His authority.
