Moses 7

The Lord Seen Face to Face

And it came to pass that I turned and went up on the mount; and as I stood upon the mount, I beheld the heavens open, and I was clothed upon with glory; Moses 7:3–4

Enoch sees the Lord and speaks with Him face to face on the mount. The Lord who appears to the ancient prophets is ordinarily Jehovah, the premortal Christ, though in this vision He speaks the Father's words about 'mine Only Begotten'.

The Son, Full of Grace and Truth

Enoch is commanded to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the same form Jesus later gave His apostles. The Son is described as full of grace and truth, and the Holy Ghost bears record of Him.

The Lord, Jehovah, comes and dwells among Enoch's people. Zion is a foretaste of the day Christ will dwell with His people on the earth.

Son of Man

Son of Man — Son of Man of Holiness (Moses 6:57)

Enoch is lifted into the presence, the bosom, of both the Father and the Son of Man, showing two distinct divine persons in whose love he is embraced.

The Son, Testified by Angels

Through the generations, angels come down to testify of the Father and the Son, and those who receive the Holy Ghost are gathered to Zion.

Behold, I am God; Man of Holiness is my name; Man of Counsel is my name; and Endless and Eternal is my name, also. Moses 7:35

God reveals His name, Man of Holiness. Together with Moses 6:57, this explains why Jesus is called the Son of Man: He is the Son of the Man of Holiness.

My Chosen

Chosen — the one foreordained by the Father to be the Redeemer

And that which I have chosen hath pled before my face. Wherefore, he suffereth for their sins; inasmuch as they will repent in the day that my Chosen shall return unto me, and until that day they shall be in torment; Moses 7:39

The Father calls the Savior 'my Chosen', the one chosen in premortal councils to redeem mankind, who will return to the Father after His mortal mission.

Advocate Who Suffers for Their Sins

And that which I have chosen hath pled before my face. Wherefore, he suffereth for their sins; inasmuch as they will repent in the day that my Chosen shall return unto me, and until that day they shall be in torment; Moses 7:39

Even for the wicked of Noah's day, the Chosen pleads before the Father and suffers for their sins on condition of repentance. They stay in the spirit prison until He returns to the Father, when the gospel reaches them.

The Righteous

The Righteous — the sinless, just One

And it came to pass that Enoch looked; and from Noah, he beheld all the families of the earth; and he cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the day of the Lord come? When shall the blood of the Righteous be shed, that all they that mourn may be sanctified and have eternal life? Moses 7:45–46

Enoch calls the Savior 'the Righteous' and asks when His blood will be shed so mourners may be sanctified. The Lord answers: in the meridian of time.

Son of Man Coming in the Flesh

In vision Enoch sees the Son of Man come into mortality and rejoices, as Abraham later rejoiced to see Christ's day.

Lamb Slain from the Foundation of the World

Lamb — the sacrificial offering, pure and without blemish

And behold, Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, even in the flesh; and his soul rejoiced, saying: The Righteous is lifted up, and the Lamb is slain from the foundation of the world; and through faith I am in the bosom of the Father, and behold, Zion is with me. Moses 7:47

Christ is the Lamb whose sacrifice was planned before the world was made. Because it was foreordained, its power reached people like Enoch who lived before it happened.

The Righteous Lifted Up

'Lifted up' is the Savior's own phrase for His crucifixion. Enoch sees the sinless One raised on the cross.

Creator of the Earth

When shall I rest, and be cleansed from the filthiness which is gone forth out of me? When will my Creator sanctify me, that I may rest, and righteousness for a season abide upon my face? Moses 7:48

The earth itself cries out to its Creator to cleanse it. Latter-day scripture teaches that the earth was created by the Son, and He will bring it rest in the Millennium.

Jesus Christ

Jesus — Jehovah saves; Christ — the Anointed One

Enoch prays to the Father in the name of the Only Begotten, Jesus Christ, just as we pray today, pleading for Noah and his posterity.

Messiah

Messiah — the Anointed One (Greek: Christ)

The Savior Himself speaks and declares, 'I am Messiah,' long before His birth, as He later told the woman at the well.

King of Zion

King of Zion — ruler of the pure in heart and of the holy city

Christ is the King of Zion, both of Enoch's city and of the Zion that will be built before He reigns on the earth.

Rock of Heaven

Christ calls Himself the Rock of Heaven, as broad as eternity, the sure foundation on which the faithful build.

Entering at the gate (baptism) and climbing by Christ is the only way that never fails. Those who do will come forth in the resurrection with songs of everlasting joy.

Enoch asks whether the earth will rest when the Son of Man comes in mortality; the Lord shows him that the rest comes at His Second Coming.

Crucifixion of the Son of Man

Deliverance of the Spirits in Prison

After His death, Christ opened the way for spirits in prison to be freed. This fulfills the promise in verse 39 that the wicked of Noah's day could repent when the Chosen returned.

Enoch sees the resurrected Son of Man return to His Father in heaven.

Only Begotten

Enoch prays in the name of the Only Begotten and confesses that his right to God's throne comes not from himself but through grace.

Second Coming

Answering Enoch's plea 'Wilt thou not come again upon the earth?', the Lord promises He will come in the last days, after great tribulation, and preserve His people.

Testimony of the Only Begotten's Resurrection

Moses 7:62

The Father promises that truth will come out of the earth to witness of His Only Begotten and His resurrection. Latter-day Saints see the Book of Mormon, brought forth from the ground, in this promise.

The elect will be gathered to a New Jerusalem to watch for the Lord's coming; His dwelling will be there, Enoch's city will return to meet them, and they will see the Father and Son ('us').
